Be sure to join them too on February 8, as Jordan and Austin, along with fellow youth planning board member Shaye Davis, will cook Valentine-shaped pancakes for the after school kids, plus more origami and other fun Valentine activities.
The Youth Planning Board is busy planning future fun events and trips. They are planning a field day for the spring filled with lots of surprises. Kudos to these youth for taking the initiative, and being so enthusiastic in the process!
Talking about youth… In December under the direction of director, Mike Smith, our players in the basketball program collected lots of food at the Kerhonkson Elementary for the Accord Food Pantry in time for the holidays. Great job!
The holidays are always hard for those in need, but that doesn’t change when the holidays are over, so remember to donate to the Accord Food Pantry (626-7501) when you can, nonperishable items please. We have a basket here at the Center for the pantry that can be added to anytime of the day.
Community Angels
We’d like to thank everyone that donated items for families in need. It helped many local families have a happy holiday. We especially like to thank Toni Sindone for all her hard work to helping make the holidays special for so many kids, and Angie Hasbrouck for canvassing practically all the stores locally and in Kingston for items and certificates for kids. We Thank the Rochester Seniors, Tillson Community Church Women’s Share Group, and all the individuals donating coats toys and such, you are all truly “Community Angels”.
We’d also like to thank Santa and Mrs. Claus and Doris and Ed Lamon for another year of making our Christmas party special to over 120 kids.
2009 Friend Of Youth Award went to Butch Corretty for years of dedication to community youth by volunteering with groups like Commitment To Kids, Babe Ruth, Scouts, and the list goes on.
A little glimpse into the kind of man he is, that one Christmas he heard of a family that could not afford even the smallest Christmas amenity for their family. Butch went out and bought a tree, toys for the kids, and more, giving this family a very special holiday. This was not a rare occasion for Butch this is the norm. We are proud that this most deserving man received the 2009 Mary Lee Friend Of Youth Award.

Summertime and the living is easy or is it? There are a lot of decisions to be made. Should we have fulltime summer camp? Part-time? Possibly both?
We are already in the planning stages for our summer program. As parents and caregivers, what would you like to see happen with our program? Would you like to see our program run fulltime out of Camp Epworth again?. Last year we were able to give a discount for town of Rochester campers, but that can’t happen this year.
We are also considering a half-day summer program 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday –Thursday. We would really like your input. Please call us at 626-2115 or email Youthcommission@hvc.rr.com.
Get out your “Green” St. Patrick’s Day is March 17 and you know what that means? A great Irish luncheon with corned beef and cabbage. We’ll let you know in our next flyer the particulars. Get ready for the wear’n of the green.
