Saturday April 18 & 25 are Earth Days
“Adopt A Road”
Join us on both Saturday Earth Days for a community clean up of our roads. Last year, many area residents, town officials, and organizations volunteered their time to clean up area roads. The cleanup was a huge success. Why not plan a “Block or Street” cleanup with your neighbors? Along with adopt-a-road volunteers, we also need volunteers to pickup and deliver to the Transfer Station throughout the day. Arrangements will be made for Group Leaders to pick up Orange Bags at the Community Center prior to Earth Day. The last Saturday, April 26 there will be free pizza, soda, and dessert for participants here at the Community Center at 2:00 PM. Please signup your road(s) by calling Youth Commission at 626-2115.
November and December 2008 are just memories now, but fun ones, nonetheless. A few highlights:
Our Thanksgiving Luncheon was as ever, a big success and very rewarding. Many thanks go out to Harold Lipton for slicing our turkeys again this year. The Rochester Reformed Church Youth Group for once again making their delicious apple pies, and the church Sunday school children for making table settings, Girl Scout Troop #187 for center pieces, Zali Win and the Rochester Residents Group for their yearly most generous donation, Gary and Donna Palmer for donating turkeys, Kerhonkson Elementary Student Council for assorted pies, and all our cooks and volunteers: Supervisor Carl Chipman and family, wife Marge, kids Kristen and Jacob, Shirley, Heather, and Jen Lamon , Al Barnett, Toni Sindone, Aline Pedelaborde, Kate and Tony Sergio, Donna Waddell, Jason Wells, and everyone helping in any way, big or small, we couldn’t do it with out any of you. Blessings to all!
Holiday Tree Lighting Our tree donated by the Rochester Senior Group is getting bigger, and about 20 adults and children came for the lighting, and sang Christmas carols, had hot chocolate and cookies donated by the Kerhonkson/Accord Chamber of Commerce.
The Gingerbread House contest held at Kerhonkson Key Bank had 14 entries climbing each year, being 5 up from last year. Award ceremony was canceled due to a snowstorm; winners will be announced in the next flyer.
Our Annual Senior Brunch And 2008 Friend Of Youth Award Brunch ceremony had about 75 people attending and were all treated to a delicious breakfast. The seniors were very appreciative of the beautiful snowmen centerpieces that Brownie Troop #235 made. During the event, Ed and Doris Lamon were presented with the 2008 Mary Lee Friend Of Youth Award for their outstanding dedication to children as volunteers with many community groups and every December becoming their alter egos Santa and Mrs. Claus, here at the Center, area hospitals, fire departments, schools, etc.
The Children’s Christmas Party made over 100 kids happy, doing crafts, having great snacks, and most of all getting presents from Santa. The Musketeers 4 H Group was a huge help to Santa this year by filling his bag with gifts for every child attending.
Pass it on, “Tuesday is  Seniors Day.”
Come and join the Rochester Senior Group, as they have a lot of fun and laughs while accomplishing worthwhile tasks from those in the military to local people and groups that are in need. They meet every Tuesday morning at 10:30, followed by (optional) Yoga at Noon, and following yoga, they all go for lunch at a local eatery.
Little Ones Learning Center is open three days a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday and 10:00 AM – Noon. This valuable community resource is dedicated to promoting early literacy and book lending for children and their families in the Rondout Valley area. Please support them.
Little Ones are looking for new Board members, if you are interested, call them at 626-4112. You can also call to find out what new activites are being planned for March and April.
