MULTIPLE ATTRACTIONS AT ANNUAL HISTORY DAY
Accord -- Would you like to find out the value of a favorite family treasure, or discover some missing information about your family tree, or see a blacksmith at work, or learn how to make cheese or candles? If the answer is "yes" to any of the above, please come to the Annual Spring History Day on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., sponsored by Friends of Historic Rochester. Activities will be located at the Museum, 12 Main Street, Accord.
On the grounds around the Museum, a number of tents will contain a variety of attractions. One of the main features of the day will be Accord's "Road Show" for appraisal of antiques and collectibles at $5.00 per item, or three for $10.00. In addition, several Heritage Crafts are to be demonstrated, including spinning, quilting, horseshoeing, and cheese making. Local authors will be on hand, ready to discuss and autograph their publications on local history. Special activities are being planned for the children who attend History Day.
Inside the Museum, visitors can explore the many photographs, documents and files about local history and historic properties in the Town of Rochester. A genealogist will be there to assist in research for specific families using the extensive resources of the Eleanor Rosakranse Genealogical Collection and a computer data bank on local families.
Available for purchase will be items on local history, a Table of Treasures, Museum Tee shirts, plus "gently used" books of all kinds, and LP records from the 1950s to the 1970s.
