At the recent Town Board Meeting, a request was made to provide information on what the process is for adopting or revising a Town law. The following information has been provided by the Town's legal advisor:
"In this case the Historic Preservation Committee has researched model laws and has prepared a draft which has been submitted to the Town Board for review. Once a proposed law has been given to each of the town board members it must be discussed at a public meeting before passage. In some cases, and in this specific case, the law must also be submitted to the County Planning Board for their comments. After the public meeting and the comment period the Town Board may pass the law as submitted or with specific modifications, may refer it back to the committee or may simply refuse to act upon it at all."
