The Superintendent of Highways is an elected position and is headquartered in the Town Garage at the Town Hall. Wayne Kelder and his employees are responsible for the maintenance of 130 miles of highways inthe town (second largest in the county), including bridge and road repair and snow and ice removal, as well as the maintenance of more than a million dollars worth of road equipment. At present there are 8 full time employees.

Open letter to the owners of property that have frontage on Town of Rochester Highways. As is stated in the Highway Town Law of the State of New York, the Highway Superintendent is responsible for the removal of obstructions including brush from the Highway. Please accept this letter as notification that the highway department will be complying with this law and doing brush cutting thru out the town on all of Rochester owned & maintained Highway.

Excess materials: From time to time, the Highway Department has materials which are excess to the job they are undertaking. These include wood chips, wood, road sweepings, blacktop, concrete, gravel and dirt. If you are interested in obtaining any of these, the Highway Department maintains a listing of interested individuals.
