The Subcommittee on Rural Character has been discussing such issues as the definitions of rural character, open space, biodiversity, scenic overlay for Route 209, historic preservation, criteria for architecture and design in designated areas, and subdivision and its impact on rural character. The subcommittee filed a grant proposal with the Hudson River Estuary Program (a division of the DEC) in June 2005. The proposal is for surveying and educating TOR residents on such issues as open space, biodiversity, natural resources. The subcommittee has discussed issues with experts in order to gain a a sense of what is being done regionally.
