Brush fires, which began on Sunday evening, April 30, burned approximately 900 acres of forests near Vernooy Falls Ridge in the Catskill State Park. The Accord and Napanoch fire departments, who played a major role in combatting the fires, were joined by numerous surrounding fire brigades. You'll notice a number of our volunteers from the fire departments as well as first aid squads, ladies auxiliaries and neighboring fire departments in the photos. The State, County and DEP played a major role in coordinating the expansive fire fighting effort. Our thanks go out to all of those who helped keep the fire under control...it was a tough, hard job.
The following photos were taken by Town of Rochester Supervisor Pam Duke (who visited daily)and Upper Cherrytown Road resident, Marge Bonner (whose home was between the command posts) . If you have photos which you would like included, please send them as an e-mail attachment or give copies to Town Supervisor Duke. Additional photos can be found at the Times-Herald Record website
